Folkestone Music Scene

It seems that although 2009 has been the year of death. including michael Jackson, Jade Goody, Tony Hart and more recently Brittany Murphy amongst others. Life has been breathed into the folkestone music scene.

Although 2010 will see the sad demise of one of our favourite F-town bands, AEF, It looks promising that there are many more bands on the horizon. Some of which include members of elephants. already this year we've had the wonderful wolves appear but also another side project looks possible. But fear not elephants are planning on becoming as big, if not bigger than their namesakes of the animal kingdom.

Tinseldayer went down an absolute storm with all bands that played charming the crowd in their own way. but it was really after the break that the event really hit its stride. elephants had the sing and clap alongs, yndi halda had the tears and tubelord just showed everyone how its done.

So here is a toast to the Fiolkestone music scene, 2009 saw some good shows but i have a feeling that 2010 will have some even better ones!

Chubby (and loving it)

So this Week elephants took off on a journey to Ramsgate. We braved the weather and travelled to the lovely seaside town. We played a show in a pub called feeneys and lets say it was minor threat! No PA no nothing. It was DIY but we loved it! We had fish and chips too!

Recording - Day one, two, three, four...WHATEVER!

OK so i set out with good intentions to update this blog everday whilst we were recording. But the best laid plans of mice and men sometimes go a'rye! (I dont know if that's how you spell a'rye so deal with it!)

So drums were done and it was time for Tom and myself to step up to the plate and lay down some killer riffs. Which we did. Boy did we nail them. Then Dean came and put down his bass tracks as smooth as you like.

To be honest there isnt an awful lot to report about recording. Once guitars and bass happened we did vocals, sprikled the tracks with handclaps, WOOOO's and YEEEEAAAH's then we were ready for Tom to Record his Keys.

Everything ran surprisingly smooth, so just over a week and we have a collection of 6 tracks some of which will appear on an e.p so keep your eyes peeled for more information on that.

The one thing i will say about these home recordings is i missed Oz pushing us as hard as he does, especially when it came to vocals. But apart from that Jack has done an amazing job and I cant wai to have the tracks mixed etc and out for the world to hear.

Recording - Day 2 "alright George, Looking very debonair!"

So day 2 got off to a shaky start. There was a problem with the recording equipment. So that delayed finishing of the drums! We were totally stumped as to what to do. We couldnt figure out what was wrong, nevermind how to fix it. But fear not ladies and gentlemen our good friend Dan Lucas came down to the rescue. He found the problem and fixed it in no time at all. And then said....and i quote....."Dan Lucas saves the day again, Now i'm going to disapear off into the night!" What a hero.

With the problem solved we cracked on with getting the drums finished and George once again stepped up to the plate to play a blinder and get his parts done in record time. Not before giving us chance to film these little beauties......

Try again George.....

What a fill!

Anyway enough drums time for guitars! Tom stepped up and started laying down his killer riffs which is what he does 24/7. So the sitting room became the studio.....

Looking forward to hearing the guitars!

New Recordings - Day One "Ah Vickers!"

So yesterday we began recording! In our very own studio....well sort of, its no abbey road let me tell you but it does the job! simply waiting for my parents to go away and making the garage into our own little drum studio we began.

so we began laying down geores drum parts. after just a couple of hours, and after a gruelling day at school. George managed to put down 4 tracks leaving just 2 left to do today!

We managed to "sound proof" the house as much as possible. mainly using plenty of sheets and anything to pad out all the rooms. so hopefully the neighbours owen is gay wont complain. or worse tell my parents upon their return.

At the controls we have Jack Matcham to help us on our journey to some future pop anthems. So if they dont sound any good it is entirely his fault. Or steves fault, it's usually his fault.

So anyway it was a really productive day and we just hope that the rest of the sessions run as smoothly as this day has! and then we can end everyday with cake!

Here's to another good day of recording!

BTW!!!!! NEW LINE-UP!!!! WTF!!!!! FTW!!!!

also we have a new line up with the Mr Tom Ffoulkes on Keys!

New Recordings??

Almost exactly a year ago we decided to venture into the studio to record a handful of tracks with our good friend Oz Craggs at the mixing desk of dreams (www.hiddentrackstudios.co.uk/) as most of you will know the result of these recordings was our debut e.p (or mini album you decide!) commonly known as "lions" (elephants.bigcartel.com christmas is coming kids!)

so anyway a year has passed and we feel like the world must be well and truly bored of our record and we have a few new gems stashed up our sleeves. A few pop nuggets that we think people will enjoy.

As of tomorrow my house (well my parents house) will become a make shift recording studio. We have already made a "drum booth" aka "the den" in the garage and we're ready to start rocking and a' rolling. with the help of Mr Jack "the power" Matcham.

Basically i'm really excited to record and i will be updating this blog, or at least try to, everyday with photos etc and news of progress!

Oh and also on this blog i am going to start using it as a wayu to rant about all sorts including new music and other such stuff . Over and Out!

deal or no deal

we came..we played..we conquored, well almost, if you consider playing to 200 pissed lager louts conqouring. Well it wasnt all bad, we had a nice game of football outside...

again all the focus was on georges face.....as you can see

well after we played football and sound checked...our close friend and producer arrived, Mr Oliver Craggs of Hidden Track Studios, we spent a while chatting to him, and then we played. We then loaded out, and decided not to stick around at the infamous Acadamy, so Oz and his girlfriend claire took us to there local haunt. It was a brilliant pub and being in there made us feel a million miles from deal, there was even a table tennis table in the beer garden with only a ball and no bats....i was so angry

Well theres nothing else to say, just a big big thank you to oz and his friends and family last night.

on the flip side everyone :)

all things bright and beautiful....

Over the past few weeks we have been busy in the barn rehearsing new material and preparing all sorts of things for our July tour, which will be from the 20th July to the 1st of August. We will put all dates up in due course. One date i can mention is Hevy Music Festival on the 1st August in our home town, Folkestone. The line up looks superb so buy tickets because it will be great fun.

In other news our debut single is at the moment set to be released in September, you don't need to guesses too which song it will be, so keep your eyes peeled for that. Also we played Ikestock Festival in Kent last week which was really fun and are also playing a show in Deal tomorrow at The Academy so if your local come down. It would be good to see some familiar faces, and if you don't come.....well i can tell you one person who will have something to say about it...

any way...over and out
